Tavistock & Area Genealogy

This site is undergoing massive redevelopment and will NOT be anything like the site it was in the past.

This site is now only concerned with local genealogy and associated items.

All local historical data is available at TaviPedia.ca

There will be 3 separate genealogy listings:
The Main Genealogy Database is the core storage facility for all local genealogy research and will have a capacity of over 500,000 persons.
The 2 auxiliary databases are listings of German emigrants by location and split into 2 main Hesse groupss; Ziegenhain and the Alsfeldt/Grebenau areas, where most of the early German immigrants to this region originated. There will be NO login access to these 2 databases for changes, additions, etc. What is available for public viewing is all that will ever be available.

The Ziegenhain families were mainly Evangelical, while the Alsfeldt/Grebenau families were predominantly Lutheran, at least in regards to our area.

As the individual family relationships are established, the families will be internally connected. As connections are established to persons listed in the Main Genealogy Database, those families will then be moved to the Main Database. Eventually, there will be one database only, although its possible the others might remain for reference purposes is enough people contribute. to ensure sustainability.

Links to the genealogy software will work, but you will not be able to create an account until the entire system is ready for use.

If you wish to have your data included in the Main Genealogy Database, you cab submit a gedcom to admin(at)Tavistock.net.
The gedcom should be of a single family only. You can submit as many as you like.

Particularly good gedcoms will be converted to special charts and posted independently to a special section.
Examples of some already built will be transferred shortly.

Help is available ONLY to those who contribute to the databases or who have contributed in the past.
